Asus Rog Strix Scope

Asus Rog Strix Scope / Scope RX

The ROG Strix Scope is a series of mechanical keyboards from the gaming line of Asus.

Time to take Control

Name and font already give away that the Strix Scope is clearly a gaming keyboard. But it is not only its appearance, also its features are primarily tuned towards gaming. The keyboard offers RGB lighting, 100% anti-ghosting, macro support, on-board storage for profiles and a game mode to disable the windows key. All pretty standard, but the Strix Scope also has a unique characteristic that stands out: Its left CTRL key is about two times wider than it usually is. The idea here is to make playing games that make much use of the CTRL key more comfortable, especially FPS games come into mind.

The ROG RX Switch

While the original ROG Strix Scope features Cherry MX switches, the newer ROG Strix Scope RX, released at the end of 2020, features ROG RX. The ROG RX switch is a linear optical switch from Asus. Instead of establishing a metal contact, it uses a light signal to detect actuation. This allows to cut the bounce time to basically zero which makes faster input recognition possible. Additionally, the switch features a unique stem that was designed with stability in mind. More precisely, it shall reduce wobbling and increase consistency. As a drawback, no common keycaps will fit onto the stems. But with its rather unique bottom row, it might be difficult to find matching keycaps for the Strix Scope anyway. If you plan on swapping the keycaps out nevertheless, you are probably better off choosing the original ROG Strix Scope instead of the ROG Strix Scope RX.

Versions of the Strix Scope

There are different versions of the ROG Strix Scope available. The name reveals which version is sold:

  • Strix Scope: keyboard with Cherry MX switches
  • Strix Scope RX: keyboard with ROG RX switches, USB passthrough and revised body

Additionally, a name suffix tells you about the form factor or the included accessories:

  • Deluxe (DLX): a wrist rest is included
  • Tenkeyless (TKL): the keyboard is without numpad

"The Asus Strix Scope TKL Deluxe is a marvellous option for those looking for a sleek and sturdy TKL board that features some brilliant key switches. First impressions last, and Asus's decision to use Cherry MX switches and staple features such as a brushed aluminium top-plate mean there are few better wired gaming keyboards around."
