The Razer BlackWidow V4 generation started in February 2023 with the market launch of the BlackWidow V4 Pro. In July 2023, two more additions were made: the middle-tier Razer BlackWidow V4 and the entry-tier Razer BlackWidow V4 X launched.
Fast Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with Macro Keys
The Razer BlackWidow V4 is a mechanical gaming keyboard that offers a speed advantage over common keyboards. To be more specific, it offers 8000 Hz Ultrapolling, which means that user inputs are processed eight times per millisecond. Most gaming keyboards currently offer 1.000 Hz polling. Switching from such a keyboard to the BlackWidow V4 therefore reduces the maximum input recognition delay from 1 ms to 0.125 ms. Furthermore, anti-ghosting measures and a dedicated gaming mode ensure you can play without disturbances. On the left, the keyboard offers six macro keys which can be assigned with arbitrary actions.
The Razer BlackWidow V4 is available with either clicky Razer Green Switches or linear Razer Yellow Switches. The keycaps are made of doubleshot abs plastic. And of course, all keys are backlit. Moreover, side glow adds even more lighting to the keyboard. The Razer Synapse software comes with countless illumination presets and functions to adapt the illumination to your needs. The product contents include a leatherette wrist rest.
BlackWidow V4 vs V4 Pro
At first glance, the Razer BlackWidow V4 and V4 Pro look difficult to distinguish. Both keyboards have an identical design, the same keyboard layout and multimedia controls. But the V4 Pro offers several luxury features on top of the V4:
- the so-called Razer Command Dial, a multi-function wheel which can be used to switch between apps, navigate through songs, tabs or zoom on web pages, etc.,
- a USB passthrough,
- macro keys at the side,
- and illumination on the wrist rest.
BlackWidow V4 X – A Cheap Alternative?
Although the BlackWidow V4 is available at considerably lower prices than the V4 Pro, you hardly can speak of a bargain. Its MSRP is set at 169.99 USD. A more entry-level price of 129.99 USD is called out for the Razer BlackWidow V4 X. The cheaper price comes with several cuts though: the BlackWidow V4 X has:
- no wrist rest,
- no dedicated media controls,
- no side glow,
- and a polling rate of only 1000 Hz (compared to 8000 Hz of the V4 / V4 Pro).
These are quite some downgrades, so it is a good idea, to always compare prices. If the price difference between V4 X and the other models is not too big, it is probably a good idea to choose the more expensive V4 or V4 Pro.
