The SteelSeries Apex Pro came onto the market in summer of 2019. In many reviews, it was described as the best mechanical gaming keyboard available. Three years later in the summer of 2022, the manufacturer presents a new, smaller version of the keyboard – the SteelSeries Apex Pro Mini.
Finding the Perfect Spot with OmniPoint Switches
The OmniPoint switches are the key feature of the Apex Pro series. They empower the user to adjust the switches’ actuation point via software. The newest version of them, OmniPoint 2.0 switches, allow to choose any point between 0.2 mm and 3.8 mm travel distance. Even more, multiple actions be configured to be executed on a single key press.
Small and versatile
The SteelSeries Apex Pro Mini is a 60% keyboard, i.e., it comes without numpad, function and arrow keys. Many actions are therefore only accessible via side-printed secondary functions. Don’t worry, if you are unhappy with the default configuration, you can easily change any key assignments via the SteelSeries Engine software. Also, settings for actuation distance and lighting effects are configured via SteelSeries Engine.
You can see that SteelSeries values durability: the keyboard comes in a robust aluminum frame and features fade-proof double-shot PBT keycaps. Moreover, the USB cable is detachable in order to enable easy and safe transportation.
Apex Pro Mini vs Apex Pro Mini Wireless
The keyboard is available as tethered version and as wireless version. The Apex Pro Mini Wireless is of course a bit more expensive than its tethered sibling, but you will get 2.4 GHz wireless and Bluetooth connectivity in return. Other than that, the two keyboards are equal and offer the same feature sets.

"A beautiful design built from high-quality parts, this tiny mechanical keyboard makes fast-paced gaming a breeze with adjustable actuation and dual per-key bindings. Still, updates to the SteelSeries software are needed to take full advantage of the vibrant RGB, and an astronomical asking price skews its value for money."
